"Romantic Killer: A Surprisingly Mature Rom-Com Anime Gem on Netflix!"
Hey there, anime fans! I'm excited to share my thoughts on Romantic Killer, a rom-com slice-of-life anime that premiered on Netflix in October 2022. With 12 episodes produced by Studio Domerica and Netflix, this anime surprised me with its maturity and humor.
Plot Summary:
Romantic Killer follows the story of Anzu, a high school girl who's never been in love and has no interest in finding love. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she's forced to participate in a mysterious game designed to help her find love. Along the way, she meets a cast of interesting characters, including a wizard named Riri, who becomes her guide and confidant. As Anzu navigates this strange new world, she learns valuable lessons about love, friendship, and herself.
My Thoughts:
At first, I was skeptical due to the weird wizard creature and colorful aesthetic, which reminded me of magical girl anime (not my usual cup of tea). But, I was pleasantly surprised by how mature and straightforward the anime turned out to be. It playfully subverts common romantic tropes with great humor, and the relationships feel natural despite being manipulated encounters.
The characters are interesting and have distinct personalities, although some took a bit too long to develop. Our main girl, Anzu, is a force of nature and totally lovable! The opening song is catchy, and the end credits will grab your attention at least once.
